Psalms by Piper Part 3

The third Psalm Mr. Piper addresses in this series is Psalm 51. The title of this sermon is "A Broken and Contrite Heart God Will Not Despise." As you may know, this Psalm is from a time in David's life when he is confronted by Nathan about his sins.

Some things that stuck out to me were:
  • David is truly full of sorrow over his sins
  • If you look at the story in 2 Sam 11-12, you see an early occurrence of God putting away the sin of David. This is what He does for us.
  • David doesn't make excuses for his sin, he owns that he is a sinner
  • David points out the the root of his sin is that he lost the joy of his salvation. This is important for us to look at.
